As part of its commitment to continued growth and investment in the region, established North East law firm, TMJ Legal Services, has relocated its Peterlee office to larger premises in the former ticket office on Burnhope Way.
TMJ, which celebrates its 40th year in business in 2026, chose to move its Peterlee hub from the former location on Yoden Way after the firm recognised in 2025 that it had outgrown its existing base to accommodate its rapidly growing team and increasing client numbers.
The move gives the firm more space to support staff, improve the client experience and continue providing local, competitively priced legal services in Peterlee and the surrounding area. The newly christened ‘Turner House’ commemorates the firm’s founder, Catherine Turner, who established TMJ in 1986 and remains an active part of the team.
With offices across the North East, TMJ has undergone a significant period of growth over the past 5 years, headcount at the firm has gone up by 25% and turnover increased by 50%.
The new Peterlee office is part of a wider programme of investment for the firm in 2026. In April, TMJ will begin a major refurbishment of its Hartlepool office, as well as a significant upgrade to the interview room at the firm’s Wingate office.
Director, Clair Dunkerley, who manages the firm alongside Chris Parker and Catherine Donworth, commented on the opening of Turner House: “This move is an exciting step forward for the firm. As we have continued to grow, it has become clear that we need a larger space to support our staff, welcome clients comfortably, and continue delivering a high standard of legal services and staff training. Turner House gives us that opportunity and also allows us to recognise the legacy of our founder as we look ahead to the future.
“We are proud to continue investing in Peterlee and the wider region. This is not only about creating more space, but about building for the future, supporting local people, creating local jobs and opportunities for local people and creating an environment where our team can continue to thrive.”
TMJ Legal Services provides a full range of legal services across its offices in Peterlee, Hartlepool, Wingate and Durham, including residential conveyancing, commercial law, family law, wills, probate and trusts, lasting powers of attorney, Court of Protection work, personal injury, clinical negligence, employment law and general litigation work.
As it celebrates 40 years in business, the opening of Turner House represents both a landmark moment in the firm’s lengthy history and demonstrates its ambition for the future.
