Staff from Seaham’s Marlborough Surgery to complete Great North Run for regional hospice

Jul 23, 2025 | Leisure & Lifestyle

Twenty dedicated members of staff from Marlborough Surgery — including three of the practice’s GPs; Dr Mansingh, Dr Mousavi and Dr Baker — are lacing up their running shoes for the 2025 Great North Run, all in support of a cause close to their hearts, St Benedict’s Hospice.

Marlborough Surgery, which provides care for over 11,000 patients, frequently refers individuals to St Benedict’s for end-of-life and palliative care. The hospice has long been recognised for its compassionate and expert support, and the surgery team is eager to give something back.

With a fundraising target of £8,000, the staff are hoping their efforts will help St Benedict’s continue its essential work for the local community. For many, this will be their first time taking part in a major charity run — and they’ve been training hard for months to prepare.

Maria Davis, a Nurse Practitioner and respected member of the local running community in Seaham, has been a major source of encouragement. Known for her energy and positivity, Maria has been mentoring her colleagues, many of whom are new to running. She even penned a heartfelt poem to inspire donations and highlight the importance of the cause.

Marlborough surgery a team so true,

Works with heart in all they do.

Now they ask what can you give?

To help our hospice help them live.

For every step for every stride,

We run together full of pride.

Every penny and every pound,

Spreads more love and care around.

Let’s make this year the best fundraiser yet,

Please help us reach the goal we’ve set.

together the finish line we will make it through,

Great North Run we are coming for you !!
