An accountancy and IT firm has announced the appointment of a trainee accountant as part of its commitment to investing in future talent.
James Imrie has joined the team at County Durham and South Shields-based Mullen Stoker.
The 23-year-old from Harrogate has been with the firm for four months and will be undertaking the ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification later this year, as he begins his training to becoming a fully qualified accountant.
James said: “I am really enjoying the job, even more so than I expected.
“Everyone has been so welcoming, and I feel like I have settled straight in here.
“At the moment I am learning the ropes and have been doing things like accounts preparation and filing, tax returns and company secretarial work, and supporting the account managers to get a feel for what being an accountant entails.
“In the coming weeks I will start the ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification, which I’m hoping will take no more than four years after which I will be a fully qualified accountant.”
James is a graduate of the Open University, having undertaken a degree in business management, finance and accounting.
He then worked as a business development manager until the opportunity to join Mullen Stoker came up.
Neil Mullen, co-founder and director of Mullen Stoker, said: “James has fit straight into the team and is already proving to be an asset to the accountancy team. He’s picked up the processes straight away and we’re keen to see his development continue when he begins his formal training to becoming a fully qualified accountant.”
Mullen Stoker was founded 15 years ago by Gary Stoker and Neil Mullen and has enjoyed year on year growth since. Although primarily recognised as a chartered accountancy firm, the company has a glowing reputation for its IT consultancy services and has a dedicated department within the business which manages all clients within this area.
It employs 15 people across its offices in Durham and South Shields and services clients across all areas of the North East.
