Heading to Seaham Food Festival this weekend? Visitors are being advised to plan their journey before travelling to one of the region’s biggest food events.
The free Durham County Council-run event returns on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August for two days of food, family entertainment, and cooking demonstrations from some of the nation’s favourite chefs.
The full line up includes TV chefs Rosemary Shrager and Phil Vickery; world-renowned chocolatier Paul Young; former MTV Dirty Sanchez frontman Matt Pritchard; Bishop Auckland’s Mike Bartley; and Great British Bake Off finalist Josh Smalley.
They will be joined by festival favourite Chris Bavin who is hosting the cookery theatre across the two days.
Visitors can watch the demonstrations while enjoying a vast selection of street food from some of the region’s best independent traders, who will be selling everything from loaded mac and cheese, burgers, Greek gyros, to churros, crepes, and cupcakes.
Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “There are just a few days to go until Seaham’s coastline becomes the centre of all things food, with hundreds of dishes to try and a variety of entertainment to make it the perfect summer day out.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone at the festival. We are expecting the event to be busy, so are reminding people to plan their travel arrangements in advance so they can enjoy the fun.”
An accessible park and ride service will be in operation for visitors which will run between Spectrum Business Park (SR7 7TT) and the town centre.
Buses will depart from the business park from 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday. The last returning buses will depart from the top of Harbour Road at 5.30pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday.
Return tickets cost £2.50 for adults, 50 pence for children aged five to 15 years old, and are free for those under five.
Town centre car parks will be open, but they are expected to be busy, and drivers are being asked to be aware of diversions due to road closures for the event.
North Terrace (B1287) from the Tempest Road junction to the Marquess Point junction will be closed on Saturday 3 August from 5am to 8pm and on Sunday 4 August from 5am to 11pm
Terrace Green Car Park will also be closed from midnight on Thursday 1 August to Monday 5 August 2024.
Diversions will be in place and will be signposted.
