Work to create new headquarters for a growing family cleaning business has now completed, supporting the creation of at least 10 new jobs.

AAA Caring Caretaker identified the 0.8 acre site at Bowburn North Industrial Estate after the company outgrew its current premises in Newton Aycliffe.

With grant support from the County Durham Growth Fund, the company completed the purchase of Polar House and over the last 10 months completed phase one of the planned building works to transform the run-down facility into modern offices. With the team on location, work can now commence on building three new warehouses to the rear of the site along with car parking facilities.

Over the past few months building works to transform the run-down facility into modern offices and warehousing space have been undertaken.

Now, five months after the project started, the building is finished and all staff have relocated.

Managing Director Alison Stephenson said: “We’re delighted that after months of work to transform the building, it is now complete.

“We think it is the perfect base for the business to begin the next phase of our growth journey, and gives us the space we need to continue to expand.

“With the additional space this site offers us, we have been able to create 10 new jobs and are also in a much stronger position to bid for larger contracts, where previously we simply didn’t have the space.”

The building comes with a training room which can be hired by external companies and groups for sessions for up to 12 people, and an office which is available for both short and long term rent for two to four people.

AAA Caring Caretaker was founded by CEO Richard H Tucker MBE in 2015 to complement an existing property company he was already running.

Since then, and despite the challenges which the coronavirus pandemic presented, the business has grown significantly which prompted the decision to look for larger premises.

AAA Caring Caretaker currently employs 41 people including 17 ex-armed forces personnel, nine of which have unseen disabilities.

The company provides cleaning and caretaker services to companies and organisations across the North East and Yorkshire, including the NHS, PD Ports, Hartlepool Marina, Esh Housing, and the MOD.

Richard H Tucker MBE, who is still involved with the business at a strategic level, added: “As part of the relocation to Bowburn, we have created a flagship centre for the business which will include office space and storage facilities, as well as leaving us with land leftover for future development as we continue to grow.

“In addition, we’ll be welcoming our first tenant, Lifting and Cooling, who will continue to operate from Polar House though their current offices and garage. This provides us with an additional source of income and utilises space we don’t currently need.

“It’s an exciting time for the business as we continue to implement our ambitious plans for growth over the coming years.”

AAA Caring Caretaker, which also employs Richard’s son-in-law Robert, has successfully tapped into Business Durham support programmes, including the Routes to Contract Success, as well as the County Durham Growth Fund.

The company was recently crowned Employer of the Year at the Ex-Forces in Business Awards and has been named ‘Most Trusted Cleaning Company in the North East’ at the SME Awards.

Last year, it also won the Soldiering On Awards for Business Growth, sponsored by the London Stock Exchange, and was acknowledged in the top 50 worldwide veteran-owned companies at the 2018 Invictus Games.
