Seaham-based UMi achieves Gold Better Health at Work Award

Jan 27, 2023 | Business

UMi makes it easier for businesses across the UK to do more and go further by finding and packaging the best information, expertise and finance to help them make better business decisions, more quickly.

The Better Health at Work Award recognises the efforts of employers in the North East and Cumbria in addressing health issues within the workplace.

UMi’s achievement of the Gold award demonstrates the team’s commitment to being the best example of an employee-owned business in its sector by being a workplace where talented people thrive, and by making a positive difference to the local communities in which it works.

The latest company-wide campaigns were designed to promote and support healthy eating and hydration, such as the Hydration Challenge, Fruit and Veg Challenge, celebrating a range of wellness days, and introducing a healthier tuckshop.

Following the Hydration Challenge, team members who took part shared that they benefited from improvements to their sleep and skin, clearer thought processes and more patience.

With the support of the scheme’s structured framework and dedicated Workplace Health Lead, the team has also created a three-year health and wellbeing action plan. This will underpin the company’s future initiatives as it works towards the Continuing Excellence award in 2023.

Bethany Ward, HR and Office Assistant at UMi, is one of the company’s health advocates and a real driving force behind UMi’s achievements. She said: “Working towards Gold has been really rewarding, seeing the positive impact that our actions have on our team members.

“Health and wellbeing are so important to us at UMi and intrinsic to our culture, so we can’t wait to get stuck into the Continuing Excellence level of the award to ensure our efforts are carried on.”

Nicki Clark OBE, Chief Executive of UMi, added: “Togetherness is key to our success at UMi. We achieve our ambitions by taking care of each individual, so together we thrive as we embark on new adventures.

“I’m delighted the team’s efforts have been recognised with the Gold award and as the bar keeps getting higher, we look forward to finding even more ways we can embed health and wellbeing in our culture.”
