Plans for a new restaurant, offering diners an affordable six-course tasting menu using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, have been unveiled.
Coarse will be based in the heart of Durham city centre and will open in the new year.
Ruari Mackay, former chef at Bistro 21, Garden House Inn and The Travellers Rest, will be one of the co-owners and head chef, while his partner Gemma Robinson is also a co-partner.
To support the venture, a Crowdfunding campaign has been launched, to help the team behind the restaurant raise the funds which will help get the new eatery off the ground and fully established.
Third co-owner Craig Lappin-Smith said: “We want Coarse to offer diners beautiful but affordable dishes, using locally sourced, seasonal produce, in an informal setting which is both welcoming and comfortable.
“The Crowdfunding campaign will support the investment made by the owners and ensure we can open the restaurant in the new year like we plan to.”
Coarse will offer diners a six-course tasting menu priced at £35.
