Turtle Bay, the popular Caribbean restaurant and bar group, is holding auditions for jobs at its new Durham venue.

Work is underway on a two-storey 4850 sq ft restaurant at The Riverwalk Durham and Turtle Bay hopes to recruit up to 50 people before opening its doors in October.

Phil Dukelow, operations manager for Turtle Bay, said: “Turtle Bay restaurants celebrate soulful laid-back Caribbean culture, recreating the colourful vibe and energy of a beach shack social, which is why we do things differently when it comes to recruiting.

We are holding audition days when people can come down and get into the spirit of the Caribbean with fun tasks, team building exercises, informal interviews and Dragon’s Den style pitches to our bar and kitchen managers.”

Ryan Sullivan, general manager of Turtle Bay Durham, said: “The North East is known for being one of the friendliest and most welcoming regions in the UK and we’re excited to see who comes through the doors.

We’d love to meet local people driven to launch a hospitality career with Turtle Bay and who have the personality and people skills to deliver high quality service in a relaxed friendly environment.”

Job roles include front of house teams, bar tenders working behind island bars and chefs to spice up Turtle Bay Durham’s open-kitchen and jerk pit.

Successful applicants will work across a two-storey riverside restaurant with areas including a beach-style veranda, Reggae and D’Rum rooms, designed to create an exciting Caribbean escape for diners and drinkers.

“Turtle Bay is an inclusive employer. We hire people from all walks of life, regardless of background or experience and provide great training that helps them thrive in a fun, friendly work environment.

If you share our values, are excited by the idea of creating ‘Caribbean good times’ every day, then you’ll find a great new home at Turtle Bay,” added Dukelow.

The group operates more than 40 restaurants nationwide including popular venues in Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

The auditions will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel Durham on Saturday September 4 and Tuesday September 7.
