East Durham College is asking businesses in the area to consider an industry placement as a way of supporting their own growth.

The placements are designed to offer young people extended periods of work placements so they can gain the skills employers look for.

At East Durham College, many of the Level 3 programmes on offer include Industry Placements which allow young people to developing their practical and technical skills while learning from experienced staff members within the business.

Industry placements have been designed to help learners, when they have completed their course, to progress directly into employment, apprenticeships or further and higher education.

A meaningful industry placement will make a significant impact to a learner’s future employment prospects, giving them a head
start and helping them to stand out from other applicants in the job market.

East Durham College offers vocational programmes which currently include industry placements in Business, Electrical, Hair and Beauty, IT, Joinery, Plumbing & Heating, Painting and Decorating, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Catering, Media and Travel & Tourism.

Industrial placement co-ordinator at East Durham College, Paula Snowdon, said: “Obviously there are many benefits to businesses that do sign up to the programme, not least gaining a future employee, however they also have a responsibility to the student so they have to be prepared to commit to the learner’s training and development and ideally have staff on hand who can act as mentors.”
