Young fitness fanatics from an Easington Village gym have quadrupled their NHS fundraising target after completing their 30-day burpees challenge in style.

The youngsters, all members of Jupiter Juniors, part of Jupiter Health Club, initially set themselves the target of raising £1,000 for NHS Charities Together.

But after they smashed that in the first week, they decided to push themselves to raise as much as possible during the month-long challenge – and final confirmation shows they have collected £3960, but with the added gift aid it means their grand total is £4665.

Justin Keegan, who runs Jupiter Health Club, said: “The seventeen kids who signed up for the challenge have absolutely smashed it – they all should be so proud of themselves.

“Completing 30 burpees in 30 consecutive days in hard for anyone, but each day they’ve all done it and everyone really got behind them.

“Our initial target was to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together, in recognition of those frontline healthcare workers who are fighting against the coronavirus pandemic, so to raise over four times that is incredible.

“On behalf of Jupiter Health Club and all the parents of the kids who took part, myself included, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated and supported our challenge. It just shows that Easington and the surrounding areas have some of the most loyal and caring people found anywhere in the country.”
