A trio of talented student barbers from East Durham College are celebrating after success at this year’s City & Guilds National Student Barber of the Year competition.
Elle Metcalfe won the silver medal, Jessica Filby won the bronze and Simone Morrow achieved the fourth-place prize. All three students are studying on a Level 3 barbering course at East Durham College.
With over 100 entries from across England, the City & Guilds National Student Barber of the Year competition, held this year in London, allows talented trainee barbers to sharpen their skills even further in a competitive environment.
Alison Brightwell, barbering lecturer at East Durham College, is ecstatic with the results.
Alison said: “I’m absolutely buzzing for the students. To get any award is amazing, but for three of my students to get the second, third and fourth place prize is just incredible.
“Elle, Jess and Simone should all be so proud of what they’ve achieved – I know I am!”
East Durham College’s students are regularly encouraged to take part in competitions such as the City and Guilds National Student Barber of the Year contest in order to build their skills and compete against their peers from other educational institutions.
Just last month, Jessica Filby also received another award at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition, where she gained the silver medal in the Men’s Creative Cut and Finish category.
