A care home in Easington is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ rating from the health and social care regulator.

Birchwood Court Residential Care Home was awarded the rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an unannounced inspection.

The Sanctuary Care home, which provides care for up to 43 people, was assessed in five categories – care, safety, leadership, effectiveness and responsiveness – and was rated ‘good’ in each of them.

Inspectors highlighted how staff treated people with kindness, dignity and respect, delivering personalised care responsive to individual needs and preferences.

The report said: “Staff were kind, patient, respectful and considerate. They had created a relaxed and friendly home. People’s body language indicated they were at ease.

The home was also praised for its use of electronic care plans, detailing people’s individual health and social needs.

Residents felt safe and happy living at the service and had a wide variety of activities to take part in, including visits from local nursery children.

Home manager, Katie Jowers, said: “We pride ourselves on enriching the lives of our residents and delivering the highest levels of person-centred care.

“I’m delighted that those efforts have been recognised by the CQC in this inspection report.”
