A local charity is hoping that a new function room can help provide much-needed funds for the future.

Haswell & District Mencap enlisted the help of the Mayor of Peterlee, Cllr. Terry Duffy, to open up ‘The Hive @ Haswell’, a stand-alone building located next to the charity’s main centre – The Lisa Dixon Centre on Burt Close in Haswell.

A licenced premise that holds up to 90 people, ‘The Hive @ Haswell’ also boasts on site catering through Haswell Catering Enterprise Ltd. as well as private parking.

The official opening of ‘The Hive @ Haswell’ took place on Friday 21st June 2019 with the charity’s 12th Anniversary Event of the opening of The Lisa Dixon Centre.  Those attending the sold out event enjoyed live music from local singer Johnny Reynolds as well as canapés, raffle, tombola and entertainment.

Haswell & District Mencap’s Charity Manager Jean Dixon MBE commented: “We are delighted that so many people have come along to enjoy our first event here at The Hive @ Haswell.”

“We hope that this is the first of many packed events as we look to ensure that the facility is well used and available for those who want it.”

Haswell & District Mencap Chief Executive Hayley Hood said: “We wanted to provide an affordable venue that is available to hire for any occasion.”

“The fact that we have a licenced bar, catering company and onsite parking means we can tailor any package required and provide a high-class event suited to any budget.”
