Girls wanted for funded cricket programme in Murton

Apr 29, 2019 | Uncategorized

Girls are being encouraged to sign up for a fully funded cricket programme which is running now.

Murton Cricket Academy is once again running its ‘Girls Can’ campaign, aimed to at attracting more girls from the area into the sport.

The programme is funded by County Durham Community Foundation and the Durham Cricket Club Youth Trust Fund.

It comes after the success of the club’s entry into the Durham Cricket Board’s girls only softball league last year, which saw competitive games held across the summer.

The club is also looking for young lads to sign up to its summer junior cricket coaching programme.

Anthony Potts from Murton Cricket Academy said: “Following the success of our girls cricket programme last year, we are really keen to attract more girls from the area to play the sport.

“Our summer junior cricket coaching programme also starts this week and we are particularly looking to attract new players from school Year 5 and Year 6.”

Murton Cricket Academy holds weekly training sessions, game based learning, indoor training in the winter months and the option of playing in hardball games.
