Independent research has found that one of the region’s largest housing associations is among the top performing providers of affordable homes in the country.

A survey of tenants has found County Durham Housing Group to be one of the best performing social landlords in Britain. The research carried out by independent analysts TLF found that the group, which provides more than 18,000 affordable homes across the county, ranks in the top 10 for tenant satisfaction with their home.

County Durham Housing Group scored particularly highly for the attitude of its staff, the ease of contacting the organisation and treating customers fairly.

The data comes from a sample of more than 1,000 tenants contacted directly as part of the group’s annual Survey of Tenants and Residents.

Other key information from the survey included the findings that 8.8 out of every 10 residents surveyed were satisfied with safety and security in their home. And 8.7 residents out of 10 were happy that their rent payments represented value for money.

The results place County Durham Housing Group sixth among 140 similar organisations across the country.

County Durham Housing Group Head of Strategy and Performance, Louise Taylor, said: “We’re very happy that our residents consider our homes and services to be of a high quality. It’s good to know that we are among the top housing associations in the country when it comes to customer satisfaction.

“But it’s also important to be able to compare satisfaction with those who rent homes in other sectors and continue to demonstrate why housing association properties offer some of the best and most affordable living available.

“We really do value all of the feedback we received from residents during this research. We’ll be analysing the data in detail to find areas where we can improve the services we offer to our customers in future.”
