A £250,000 improvement programme dedicated to accommodation for older people across East Durham is approaching completion.
Buildings in Blackhall, Horden, Easington and Seaham that provide 92 purpose-built affordable apartments for older residents are receiving refurbishment works by County Durham Housing Group. The investment of more than £225,000 has included both structural and cosmetic work to each of the buildings.
Primrose Court in Blackhall, Robinson House in Horden, Donnini House in Easington and the Jubilee Centre in Seaham have all benefited from the work. The finishing touches are currently being carried out at the Jubilee Centre, the final building to be improved.
Each of the buildings feature independent apartments, but they also benefit from communal facilities, such as lounges, laundries or gardens.
County Durham Housing Group Neighbourhoods Team Leader, Ian Vickers, said: “Our affordable apartments provide a vital way for older people to stay in the communities they know and are a part of. This investment will improve the quality of each of the facilities and help to ensure that we can carry on providing this specialist accommodation for many more years to come.”
County Durham Housing Group is investing heavily in its 18,500 affordable homes, with a £138m programme of improvements transforming homes from rural Weardale to the Durham coast. Hundreds of new affordable homes are also being built as part of £54m scheme across the county.
