Students from colleges across the region had chance to meet with local hospitality sponsors, suppliers and businesses at the first NECTA Future Chef Launch 2016, sponsored by Continental Chef Supplies.
The event was an informal chance for the student finalists from colleges across the region to meet their fellow competitors, discuss their dish ahead of the competition on Thursday 28th April, as well as gain invaluable support and advice from local businesses and suppliers.
Antony Ward, Marketing Manager at Continental Chef Supplies, said: “We are thrilled to sponsor and provide our ongoing support to the NECTA Future Chef competition. It’s great to see so many businesses coming together and supporting the next generation of our hospitality industry and we’re looking forward to growing and evolving Future Chef from strength to strength”.
As well as ongoing support from Continental Chef Supplies, the launch event, held at Raval Luxury Restaurant, was filled with exciting supplier talks and live demonstrations for all students, including a curry masterclass, seafood prep demonstration and butchery tutorial.
Douglas Jordan, NECTA Chairman added: “I’d like to thank everyone who attended the Future Chef launch and for making it so special for this year’s finalists.
This is a life changing opportunity for these ambitious young chefs to compete against one another to showcase their culinary skills, as well as develop their skills and create an invaluable platform for their future careers within the hospitality and catering industry and we will be behind them all the way. This is not just a competition; it’s an ongoing relationship between us and the students”.
The four finalists of this year’s competition include Chris Hall from Tyne Met College, Alisha Goldsborough from Newcastle College and Elliott Teasdale and Lee McKinnell from Gateshead College.
The NECTA competitions will take place over two days at Newcastle Racecourse from Wednesday 27th April – Thursday 28th April 2016.
