Encore Packaging Solutions has invested £250,000 in new kit from Bobst as it moves forward with its plans to boost production at its Peterlee manufacturing site.

The North East-based firm, which recently relocated its new factory and warehouse facilities, has purchased a Visionfold 110 A2 multifunction folder-gluer, with extended delivery unit and blank aligner from Bobst, the world’s leading supplier of equipment and services to packaging and label manufacturers in the folding carton, corrugated board and flexible materials industries.

As part of its ongoing growth strategy, the investment will enable Encore, which manufactures everything from corrugated outer packaging to printed folding cartons, to fold and glue a wide range of carton styles and substrates quicker and more efficiently than before, increasing production to 25,000 cartons per hour.

Russell Croisdale, Encore Packaging Solutions’ managing director, said prior to this investment, the firm relied on folding and gluing certain items by hand. He said: “The decision to purchase the equipment from Bobst has allowed us to fully automate our manufacturing process, which has dramatically increased efficiency as well as our production capacity.

“After relocating our packaging division to its new base in Peterlee we have set the ambitious goal of moving from a simple day shift, five days per week, to a double day shift and I’m confident our investment in the Bobst Visionfold 110 will give us the capabilities needed to achieve this.”

Encore Packaging Solutions offers customers a bespoke production service to deliver quality from the initial enquiry to finished product from its new 73,000 sq. ft. factory in Peterlee. The business was supported in its move to the new site by Business Durham, the economic development company for County Durham, which helped Encore liaise with planners and supported it through the purchase of the new building.
